Hello! So today’s the last friday of April meaning it’s officially Met Gala weekend. Yay. Expect to see lots of throwback pictures on your twitter timelines, tumblr dashboards & instagram feeds plus pre gala parties on snapchat throughout the weekend. New York is about to get crowded. (You know, even more than usual).
The Met Gala is seriously one of my favourite events of the year. I literally look forward to September/ October every year when the theme’s announced and from then onwards, to the actual event on the first monday of May. It’s insane. For those of you that are perhaps indifferent to the fashion industry and don’t know what it is, the Met Gala is basically fashion’s Oscar night. The event marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit and celebrates the theme of the year’s exhibition which for 2017, is Rei Kawakubo/ Comme Des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.
In anticipation of the gala which is in JUST A FEW DAYS (May 1), I thought I’d post the following pictures of how the Metropolitan Museum, where it takes place, is transformed every year for the gala/ exhibition so we can all die over the breathtaking decor. And of course, also appreciate the absolute genius that is Raul Ávila; who has been in charge of the ball’s design decor since 2007.
(Does anyone else think of gossip girl every time the Met is mentioned? you know Blair and the met steps? no?)
PS- If any of you happens to be an event planner/ decorator or into event planning & decorating, you’re in for a treat!
